FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has invested in high quality drama programming this MIPTV, with the announcement of joint-venture deals with producers from the US, Australia and the UK.
The US partnerships, brokered by FME’s David Ellender (photo) and Jeff Tahler, include producer relationships with Winkler Films, Mike Tollin and Landscape Entertainment.
Winkler Films, headed up by father and son filmmakers, produced the 1976 Oscar winner Rocky as well as Raging Bull and Goodfellas: “We are very excited to be an integral part in FME’s expansion in the scripted television arena,” said Irvin and David Winkler. “Particularly at a time when we are rapidly expanding our own television slate.”
In the UK, FME will be working with writer, creator and producer Paul Abbot and with Roger Simpson in Australia.
FME’s CEO David Ellender said: “We are already a strong player in the drama space and by partnering with only the best in the business we will become an even stronger one.”
FME’s success in drama includes Merlin, a joint investment with Shine Television and BBC One, with the first series now sold in 113 territories since launching last year, and series two launching at this market.
